Joseph Gibbons, age 66, of Fairfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 4th 2013.
A resident of Fairfield his entire life, he was born on August 28, 1946 and graduated from Andrew Warde High School. He attended drafting school, worked for Handy and Harman, and served in the Vietnam War. He was a proud employee of Fairfield's Department of Public Works for 25 years before retiring in 2007 as a Highway Department Supervisor. He loved serving his town and on many occasions, took his grandson Ryan to work with him.
Joe was a Nascar fan, a Raider's fan, and enjoyed many successful fishing trips to the Fairfield marina. He enjoyed clamming with his brother-in-law Bino, and following retirement, had lunch every Friday with his friends Scott and Orlando. He loved making furniture and restoring baseballs for his grandson's baseball team. He even invented a baseball drying device and had a scale to make sure the weight met regulation standards. His most enjoyable hobby truly was attending his grandsons' Ethan and Ryan's sporting events.
The grief and heartache of his family and friends serves as a testament to what a respectable, supportive, generous, and pleasant man Joe was during his life.
Joe is survived by his resilient mother, Rena Gibbons; daughter, Maura Gibbons and her boyfriend, Josh Rehrig; daughter, Kerri Gibbons; grandsons Ethan and Ryan Len; brother, Allan Gibbons and his wife, Debbi and their children; brother, Tom Gibbons; sister, Joanne Moura and her husband, Bino and their children; brother-in-law, Charlie Rogan and his children; sister-in-law, Sharon Wilcox, her children, and her partner, Robert Harcarick; sister-in-law, Pat Repko and her husband, Bob and their children; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Rogan his wife, Tillie and their children.
