Girardi, Sr., Michael J.
Michael J. Girardi, Sr. age 86 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of Helen (Molchan) Girardi, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2013 in Connecticut Hospice of Branford. Born in Bridgeport to the late James and Mary Girardi, he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Girardi was a U.S Navy veteran and received a Bachelor Degree of Architecture from Sycracuse University in 1957. He was the owner of Michael J. Girardi Architects and Associates and a member of the AIA and NCARB. He designed the Sherman Green Gazebo and donated his work to the Town of Fairfield and also served for many years with the town's Parking Authority. In 1970, he was the Ex-Aide to the Ringmaster for the Barnum Festival in Bridgeport. Mr. Girardi was an active parishioner of Holy Family Church in Fairfield where he was a Eucharistic Minister and assisted with collections. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Michael also enjoyed walks at St. Mary's by the Sea and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his devoted sons, James Girardi and his wife, Sydney of Easton and Michael J. Girardi, Jr. and his wife, Natalia of Spring Glen, NY; grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Kinsey and Darrick; and great-granddaughter, Karena. He will also be missed by his sister, Elizabeth Achilles of West Palm Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Marie Dingee of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Girardi.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. directly at Holy Family Church in Fairfield. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. Friends may greet his family Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center.
