Michael Vito Montanaro, of Easton, CT., lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, October 28, 2012, he was 91 years young. Michael grew up in the Hollow section of Bridgeport where he attended St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, and graduated from Central High School. Michael was the son of the late Charles and Delia Montanaro. After marrying the love of his life, Emily Berty, Michael, a member of the quintessential "Greatest Generation", enlisted in the 15th U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in New Orleans, Italy and the former Yugoslavia on the Island of Vis. Michael was awarded several commendations, including the Bronze Star. He was proud to have served, protected and to have returned to his love, Emily, in order to start a family. Michael spent his life in the auto business while young, moving into real-estate development later in his life. Emily and Michael joyfully celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past August. Nothing was more important to Michael than his family. Survivors include his wife, Emily Montanaro, his two sons, Michael Montanaro and wife Wendy of Easton, and Richard Montanaro of Easton, four grandchildren, Aimee Montanaro of Westport and New Orleans, Chris Montanaro and wife Kristi of Westport, Amanda Montanaro of New Canaan, and Nick Montanaro of New Canaan, his siblings, Charlotte Kaczanowski of Trumbull, Phyllis Sereno of Shelton, Janet Marrella of Canoga Park, California, and Charles Montanaro of Easton, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Delia Manjoney, and his grandson, Todd Montanaro. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM DIRECTLY in Notre Dame of Easton Church, 655 Morehouse Rd., Easton for a Mass of the Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow at Union Cemetery, 850 Sport Hill Rd., Easton CT 06612.
