Michael W. Rich, 48, of Stratford, formally of Stamford, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013. Michael was born in Stamford on November 10, 1964 to Albert and Patricia A. Yaeger Rich.
Michael graduated from Stamford High School in 1981, and went on to work for the Local Laborers Union and The Stone Mason Local of Connecticut after which Michael decided to open his own business, M.W. Rich Mason Contractors LLC, which he proudly owned and operated for 27 years.
Michael loved sports and was an avid Giants fan and, in his younger days, played semi-pro football for The Connecticut Giants. Michael loved playing poker and golfing with his Dad, he also enjoyed home cooked meals from his Mom's kitchen and affectionately teased his niece and nephews. Michael also had a love for animals beside his own pets; Buster, Peanut, Heidi and Missy Girl. Michael also took in stray cats from an abandoned building near his home where he then fed, cared for and provided medical attention.
Besides his parents, Michael is survived by his two brothers; Albert Rich Jr. and his wife Jennifer, of Stamford and Craig Rich and his wife Victoria, of West Haven, his sister; Kimmy Corelli and her husband Anthony, of Stamford, as well as his niece and nephews; Tyler, Ashley, Nick, CJ, Christian, Kyle and Anthony Albert. Many caring aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends also survive.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday September 14, 2013 at 10:30AM and proceed to St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday September 13, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00PM.
