Sassin (Ed) Saloomey, age 100, the beloved husband of Magdalena Saloomey, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Baskinta, Lebanon to the late Shaker and Tesbina Saloomey, Sassin was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army where he received the Bronze Star.
He was the owner of the S&S Dugout, a Southport landmark for over sixty years, which he ran with his wife and son Bob. Ed was an avid Yankees Fan and named his restaurant after his love of baseball.
In addition to his wife, Sassin is survived by his two sons, Peter and his wife, Deniz and Robert, all of Fairfield; five devoted grandchildren, RJ, Michael, Tommy, Daphne and James; his sister-in-law, Marhaba Saloomey of Fairfield; his nieces, Antoinette, Barbara and Dolores and his grandnieces, Jennifer, Kimberly and Lauren. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Salim, Nahim, Karim and Halim.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. directly at St. Pius X Church. Interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may greet his family on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center.
