Mildred E. France, age 94, beloved wife of 69 years to Henry G. France of Milford, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 in the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth LeDoux, she was born on March 19, 1919 in Fairfield, Connecticut. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport and attended Hunter College and Southern Connecticut State University. Mildred was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy, stationed in Washington, DC from 1943 to 1945. Mildred was a homemaker who was active in her children's schools as a PTA volunteer and a cub scout den mother. She later worked as a billing manager at Raybestos in Stratford. She retired 1982 and during her retirement was a volunteer at Milford Hospital. Mildred enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, scrabble, travelling and family activities. Her wonderful cooking was enjoyed by her family and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mildred was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Milford for over fifty years.
In addition to her husband Henry, she leaves three devoted children, Leslie E. Donnelly of Milford, Stuart G. France and his wife Shari of Shelton, Phillip H. France and his wife Claire of Woodbury; seven grandchildren, Kerry Winco and her husband Jeff of Sturbridge, MA, Melissa France of Waterbury, Kevin Donnelly of Chicago, Tara France of Manhattan, NYC, Phillip H. France, II of Woodbury, Patrick J. France of Woodbury and Jacob France of Shelton; five great grandchildren, Jamie and Alex Malok, and Nathan, Jillian, and Ryan Winco; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
A service in celebration of Mildred's life will be held on Sat., Feb. 22 at 1:30 at the United Presbyterian Church located at 109 Seaside Avenue in Milford, Connecticut. Interment in Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford, at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.
