Dorothy Betty (Turtill) Treadwell, passed away of natural causes at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford on Sunday, March 9, 2014. She was 96 years old.
She was born and raised in Bronx, NY, where she attended public schools and studied dance. After school, she toured as a dancer in several road shows in the Northeast including New Haven and Boston. the pinnacle of her career was starring as a chorus dancer with Gene Kelly in the Broadway musical, "Leave It To Me". In 1940, she married William F. Treadwell, a New York City gossip columnist and later public relations executive. They settled in Westchester County and had two sons. She did charitable and volunteer work and sold high-end clothing in the A. DePinna department store in Scarsdale, NY. Dorothy spent her later years in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Trumbull, and Stratford.
She is survived by two sons, Brian W. Treadwell of Centreville, VA and William F. Treadwell, Jr. of Sarasota, FL. Also leaves behind five granddaughters, Michelle and Melissa Treadwell, Amy Treadwell, Gail Gray and Cara Forman, as well as six great-grandchildren.
She will be interred in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
