Merritt, Elizabeth
Elizabeth (Betty) Merritt, passed away March 13, 2014 at her home in Trumbull. She was the daughter of the late Frederick M. Merritt and Margaret Hamm Merritt. She was born in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport and graduated from Black Rock School and Bassick High School. Betty was an administrative assistant at Remington Shaver and General Electric. She served as a Girl Scout leader, was a past president of the Bridgeport Chapter of the Secretaries Association, and President of the Trumbull Woman's Club. She also served on the council of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bridgeport as well as chairman of St. Paul's Child Development Center. She has been an mentor and volunteer at the local grammar school. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed history, rooted for her team favorites; the UConn Women's basketball team and the Boston Red Sox. Betty is survived by her sisters Dorothy Merritt of Trumbull and Margaret Smith of Middletown as well as her nephew Gary Smith and his family of Chicago, her niece Kathleen Marco and her family of Rhode Island and her nephew Michael Smith and his family of Massachusetts. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 406 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT or VITAS Hospice Care 99 Hawley Lane Suite 1204, Stratford, CT 06614.
