James E. Northrop, age 51 of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport the son of the late William E. Northrop and Martha Northrop who currently resides in Bridgeport, he had been a lifelong area resident. James was employed for many years in the hospitality and food service business. He was a true lover of all kinds of animals, and in his youth, was a member of the CT Audubon Society. James became a baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic in 2009 and derived great strength from his religion. He attended Mass regularly at St. Ann's Church in Black Rock. Survivors in addition to his mother, Martha include two sisters and a brother, Sandy Figueiredo of Grant, FL, Shirley Gromadski of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Louis W. Northrop of New York City; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Ann's Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CT Humane Society, 455 Post Road, East, Westport, CT 06880.
