M. Frances Milkavich, (born Morfenia Frances Capetanidis), age 94 (formerly of Westport, CT) died peacefully at Grandview Care Center in Sun City West, AZ on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Frances was born on September 26, 1919 in Bridgeport, CT to John and Mary Capetanidis. She was the widow of Joseph G. Milkavich, her beloved husband of 64 years. She is survived by two sons and one daughter: Robert Milkavich and his wife, Shirley, of Houston, TX; Patricia Milkavich Stiltner of Surprise, AZ; Donald Milkavich and his wife, Joan, of Williamsburg, VA. Grandchildren: Dr. Lisa Milkavich Rubow and her husband, Kevin, of Salt Lake City, UT; Dr. Amy Milkavich and her partner, Bryan Trammell, of Arvada, CO; James Milkavich and his wife, Megan (Oviatt) of Dallas, TX; David A. Haugsby of Columbus, OH; Michael D. Milkavich of Williamsburg, VA. Great-grandchildren: Tyler A. Babbitt of Grove City, OH.; Joseph James Trammell of Arvada, CO; Rowan Rubow of Salt Lake City, UT. Sisters: Katherine Mondul of Rockford, IL; She was predeceased by sisters Ann Byers and Olga Aronow. Frances was an educator for over 30 years which included 26 years in the Norwalk School district. She was a life member of the National Teachers Association, Connecticut Educational Association, Associated Retired Teachers of Connecticut and AARP National Association of Retired Teachers Branch. Frances attended Westport schools and graduated from Staples High School on Riverside Ave in 1937. She received two bachelors degrees, one from Central Connecticut State College in commercial education (1943) and another from Danbury State College (1956) in elementary education; a masters degree from Danbury State College (1959); a sixth year Certificate from Fairfield University(1967) and 15 more credits toward a teacher's reading certificate from the University of Bridgeport. Upon retirement, Frances volunteered as a tax counselor for the elderly, worked with the State of Connecticut Social Services as an advocate for residents of a local nursing home, and drove senior citizens to various appointments. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road, Westport. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
