Mary Allen Bertasi, of Westport and Palm Beach, age 72, was with her family when she passed away peacefully on April 2nd , 2014.
Born in Bridgeport, to the late Walter and Catherine Allen, Mary graduated from Central High School, studied nursing at St. Vincent's, and married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Bertasi.
In addition to Ron, her husband of 53 years, Mary is survived by their five children, Kelly Bertasi Cason, Richard Bertasi, Ronald Bertasi II, Jamie Bertasi Zerber, and Courtney Bertasi Bridger; their 16 grandchildren, Brian Cason, Nicholas Bertasi, Reilly Bertasi, Dirk Cason, Margaret Bertasi, Elizabeth Bertasi, Devon Cason, Meredith Bertasi, Chris Bertasi, Ron Bertasi, Katie Cason, Remy Zerber, Tristan Zerber, Scarlett Zerber, Sawyer Bridger, and Jack Bridger. Mary's children and grandchildren live around the country and world in northern, southern and central California, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and England. Mary is also survived by her brother, Thomas Allen, and was pre-deceased by her sister Betty Allen McGrath.
Mary leaves behind a wonderful legacy in her large, thriving family. Mary's family will miss her enthusiasm and support tremendously and most admired her single-minded determination. Mary's unmatched devotion to her family already lives on in all those younger lives and families that will come.
Mary was very involved in her community throughout her life working tirelessly to help others. She held local leadership and board positions at organizations including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Park City Hospital, numerous PTAs, mothers' groups, and other charitable organizations. Mary and Ron were members over the years at Sun Haven Beach Club, Black Rock Yacht Club, and remain members at the Patterson Club and Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club.
Those who knew Mary well, knew of her love and devotion towards her family and friends. While heartbroken at the loss of such a giving, loving woman, they celebrate the fabulous life of strength, beauty and grace. Mary, we will miss you dearly.
Friends can call on the family Monday from 4 PM to 8 PM at Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
