Kleinknecht, Jr., Carl A.
Carl A. Kleinknecht, Jr. age 70, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, April 7, 2014. Carl was born in Bridgeport, CT and was raised by loving parents, the late Carl Kleinknecht, Sr. and Ruth Morgan Kleinknecht, and was the youngest son of six siblings. He loved to be near the water and spent much of his youth growing up on Fairfield Beach. A passion for cars, Carl was always sure to be seen cruising in one of his many Corvettes. He went to Cardinal Farley Military School in Rhinebeck, NY, and did his post graduate work at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. Carl furthered his education by attending Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. Out of college, Carl joined his father in business at Barrett Roofing and Supply Company of Bridgeport and eventually ran this successful business along the corridor of the East Coast unitl he sold it in the early 90's. While living in Houston, TX, he had worked briefly for R.B. Hash Roofing Company. Carl belonged to numerous clubs and organizations, such as, the YMCA of Fairfield, Algonquin Club, and the Mill River Country Club. He was very active in several youth sports and had coached both Shelton Pop Warner Football and the Shelton Flag Football League for ten years. Carl also coached the Youth Soccer League of Shelton for five years. During all his years of coaching football, he had the privilege of coaching three of his sons, Jason, Matthew and Scott. Carl is survived by his children, Dawn Donacki-April, and her husband, Chuck, of Brookline, NH, Wendy Kleinknecht, of Norwalk, CT, Carl Kleinknecht, and his wife, Rebecca, of Sammamish, WA, Jason Kleinknecht, and his wife, Melissa, of Middletown, RI, Suzanne Kleinknecht, of Norwalk, Matthew Kleinknecht, of Shelton, Scott Kleinknecht, and his wife, Becky, of Naugatuck, CT; his sisters, Joan E. Kleinknecht, of Fairfield, CT , Carol Lucchesi, of Bridgewater, and Ruth Schobe, of West Plam Beach, FL; a brother, William Kleinknecht, and his wife, Margie, of Hendersonville, NC; his former wife, Debbie Kleinknecht, of Shelton; his ten grandchildren, who loved him as the "COACH", Andrew and Matthew of New Hampshire, Abby, Emma, and Grace, of Bellevue, WA, Nicholas, Griffin, and Meghan, of Newport, RI, and Arianna and Bryce, of Naugatuck, CT; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving parents, Carl and Ruth, Carl was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Kleinknecht Smith, of Fairfield. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11 AM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford, CT.
