Fodor, Helen A.
Helen Ann (Schuster) Fodor, age 100, beloved wife of the late John S. Fodor, went home to God, on April 9, 2014.
Born in Torrington on August 24, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Kostanty and Victoria (Wysocki) Schuster. She had been a resident of Stratford for over 70 years.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Burlington and married John S. Fodor on August 21, 1937 in Millerton, New York. They were married for 52 years. He died on October 5, 1989.
While her family was growing up, she was an active volunteer in the Girl Scouts, the Red Cross, and at St. James Church. After raising her family, she graduated from Bullard Haven Technical School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse at Bridgeport Hospital. Following her retirement from the hospital in 1983, she worked as a volunteer and then a page at Stratford Library and volunteered at the Golden Rooster Shoppe. A communicant of St. James Church for over 70 years, she was a member of the St. James Ladies Guild, the Resurrection Choir and the Bible Study group. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 60 years. She had a lifelong interest in cooking and antiques and was known for wearing beautiful hats.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Victoria and Donald Coulson of Stratford, Marcia and Thomas Kabaservice of West Melbourne, Florida, and Donna and Walter Izbicki of East Putnam; eight grandchildren, Laura Augusztin (and her husband Michael), Geoffrey Kabaservice, David Coulson (and his wife Jenifer), Mara Kabaservice, Jesse Kabaservice (and his wife Dawnna), Theodore Kabaservice, Katharine Izbicki and Gregory Izbicki (and his wife Danielle); and six great-granddaughters Christina, Alexandra, Michaela, and Isabella Augusztin and Maylin and Ellison Kabaservice. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Kostanty and Walter Schuster and two sisters, Nell Winalski and Margaret Hricko.
Friends may greet the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2001 Main St., Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 2000 Main St., Stratford. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of the Kent Wing at Cambridge Manor (especially Marianne) for their professional and loving care as well as Dr. Gregory Hulcher for his many years of excellent care and compassion. Donations may be made in Helen's memory to the John and Helen Fodor Scholarship Fund, The Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, 200 High St., Milford, CT 06460.
