Tyer, Mary L.
Tyer, Mary Louise Tyer age 78 of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on April 26, 2014 in St. Vincent's Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in St. Louis, MO on October 27, 1935 to the late William P. and Anna Whalen Tyer. Mary was a nun with the Sisters of Mercy for 13 years and a secular teacher with the Stratford Public School system for 26 years. She was a talented, creative and enthusiastic educator who always strived to instill a love of learning and fun in her students. Family remembers her "Teacher Tyer's Multipliers" group. Among her own extended family it was often said that "when Aunt Mary walked in, the fun came with her." She was extremely generous with her time and energy. All of her nieces and nephews enjoyed memorable experiences with Aunt Mary and Eileen. Summers filled with trips to the shore, amusement parks or local beaches remain cherished memories. Family holidays were greatly enriched by her loving presence. Mary enjoyed travel throughout her life, loved to share her memories of trips to Ireland, Austria, Puerto Rico and the annual "leaf trips" that she enjoyed with her mother and sister. When she retired, Mary and her friend Eileen enjoyed close to 20 years in beautiful Naples, Florida where she retired in 1993. She made wonderful friends in Naples and was able to coax many of her family down to share in the loveliness of her adopted city. Mary is survived by one brother, Robert Tyer and wife Loretta of Trumbull and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her beloved parents, Mary was also predeceased by one brother, William Tyer, one sister, Patricia Baumgartner, one brother-in-law, James Baumgartner, one sister-in-law, Mary E. Tyer and dear friend Eileen M. O'Sullivan. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home 2220 Main Street Stratford and at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Church 651 Stratford Road Stratford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev.
