Payne, Jr., John H.
John H. Payne, Jr., age 34, of Bridgeport, devoted husband of Christina Haertel Payne, passed away on May 18, 2014 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. In addition to Christina, his beloved wife, John's memory will be cherished by his son, John "Howie" Payne III and daughter to be, Lauren; his mother Mercedes Payne; two sisters, Mary Ann Robinson and Theresa Quiroga; one brother, Julian Alejos, and his wife, Julie; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; his godmother, Barbara Fry, of Easton. He was predeceased by his father John H. Payne, Sr. and uncles. A long time resident of Bridgeport, John was a graduate of Trumbull High School, and later, the Culinary Institute of America. He was inspired to become a chef after working as a cook at Disney World's Epcot. For several years, Christina and John owned and operated a small restaurant and a prepared seafood business on Maryland's Eastern Shore called Shells Yes! Crab Cake Company. A talented chef for Marriott International, he had worked for hotels in Baltimore, Washington, DC, and presently, New York's East Side locations. While having a passion for foods, John's greatest love was his wife, family, and friends. He found joy in traveling to Disney with Christina and Howie, visiting farmers markets, attending Yankee games or watching Patriot games with his son, and getting together with his family and friends. He will be remembered for kindness and incredible sense of humor. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3-7 PM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, with a prayer service at 6 PM. His interment in St. Michael's Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to: The Payne Family Education Fund c/o: Barbara Fry 419 North Park Avenue, Easton, CT 06612.
