Julius G. Oravez, age 84 of Norwalk, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday, June 3. He was the loving husband for 64 years of Dorothy Porter Oravez. Julius was born in Norwalk on September 9, 1929, the son of the late Julius and Veronica DeDonato Oravez. He served his country in the U.S. Army and National Guard during the Korean War. He was a firefighter for the City of Norwalk for 35 years and also worked at Stew Leonard's for 27 years. He was a member of the Eagles, Aerie 588 and the American Legion, Post 12. Julius loved taking part in all of his grandchildren's activities, working in his yard and going to the circus.
Survivors also include a son Douglas Oravez of Naugatuck, a daughter Deborah Volante and her husband Stephen of Trumbull, three grandchildren, Christopher, Katherine and Zachary, step grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda, and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother John Oravez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 9, 11 AM at St. Philip Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Pl., Norwalk, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Julius' family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Sunday from 3-6 PM. Donations in his name may be made to
