Santella, Marilyn M.
Marilyn M. Santella, 78, beloved wife of Sal Michael Santella, MD was escorted by angels into eternal rest on June 17, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Marilyn was born on September 25, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, daughter of the late Harold and Geraldine (Clark) Bradley. Raised in Rockwell City, Iowa, she graduated from Rockwell City High School. She went on to Creighton University in Omaha, NE where she received her RN in 1956 and met the love of her life, Sal. Marilyn and Sal were married on September 15, 1956. They resided in Bridgeport, CT for 25 years raising 3 children in a wonderful neighborhood. During this time, her family embarked on many wonderful adventures together traveling, skiing, and spending time with many close relatives and friends. As a young registered nurse, Marilyn worked in the operating room at St. Vincent's Hospital. Later, she managed her husband's medical office and attended to nursing duties there as well. An active volunteer, Marilyn became involved with St. Augustine School, St. Vincent's Auxiliary, and served on the Board of St. Joseph Manor. She was a staunch supporter of Fairfield College Preparatory School and Fairfield University. For twenty years, she was a devoted volunteer reader in the Bridgeport School System and loved every minute working one-on-one with adorable children. As an Easton resident, Marilyn was instrumental in the completion of the 9/11 Easton Memorial. Most recently, she was a member of the Notre Dame of Easton Women's Guild and on the Board of the Easton Senior Center. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and baking, occasional golf games followed by lunch with friends, and traveling with Sal. By far, her favorite activity was a visit from one of her nine "perfect" grandchildren. Marilyn will be remembered by her beautiful rose gardens, her strong faith, and her loving ways to all. She always had a cup of tea to share along with a listening ear and a hug. Her kindness to others will not be forgotten. Besides Sal, her devoted husband of 57 years, Marilyn leaves three children, Robert N. Santella MD and his wife, Lori of Sioux Falls, SD, Katherine L. Fitzpatrick and her husband, John of Simsbury, CT, and Marie E. Beyer and her husband, Greg of Naugatuck, CT as well as 9 grandchildren, Dan, Julie, and Mary Santella, Erin, Shannon, John Michael, and Kristen Mary Fitzpatrick, and Amy and Rebecca Beyer. She also leaves two sisters, Pam Knudson and her husband, Don, and Deborah Waters and her husband, Kenneth and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00am meeting directly in Notre Dame of Easton Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in OakLawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Thursday 4-8pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Sal & Marilyn Santella Scholarship Fund at Fairfield Prep, the Dr. Sal & Marilyn Santella Scholarship Fund at Fairfield University, or Creighton University School of Nursing.
