"Father" Gerard Pugh, Sr., age 72 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport to the late Elliott and Calperta Williams Pugh, he was a life-long resident. He was educated in the Bridgeport public school system and was a graduate of Warren Harding High School. Gerard served many years as an F.C.I.A.C. football and softball referee. He was employed at the former Raybestos Manufacturing for twenty-six years and later at the UI where he was employed ten years. His spiritual needs were met as a disciple of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit where he served as Church Father, Deacon, Finance Committee, and Church Treasurer. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mary Lyman Pugh of Bridgeport; two sons, Gerard (Quenette) Pugh, Jr. of Bridgeport and Richard (Renee) Pugh of NC; a daughter, Denise (Sonny) Gardner of Bridgeport; a brother, Charles (Antoinette) Pugh, Jr. of NJ; a sister, Mary Jane Emmanuel of PA; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2014, 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit with Pastor Kenneth H. Moales, Jr., officiating. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Monday, July 7, 2014, 10:00 AM. Friends are invited to the viewing Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the church. See www.mortonsmortuary.com.
