Mary-Wythe Parsons, age 82, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Friday, July 4, 2014, in her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late William Chamberlain Parsons, Jr. Mary-Wythe was born in Blacksburg, VA on July 24, 1931, daughter of the late John Gleaves Porter, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth (Grubb) Porter. She lived in Fairfield for over 30 years before moving to Woodstock, VT, where she lived for over 15 years before settling in Shelton in 2011. Mary-Wythe was the past president of the Fairfield Women's Club and in Vermont she was a volunteer at the Thompson Senior Center, Glad Rags, and the Billings Farm and Museum. She received a Presidential Commendation from President George H.W. Bush for investing over 10 thousand hours in volunteer service while living in Vermont. She cherished her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is the beloved mother of Kathlene Elizabeth Stabile and her husband John Stabile Sr., and William MacDonald Parsons and his wife Nora. She also leaves her brother, John Gleaves Porter, Jr and his wife Betty, and three cherished grandchildren, John Anthony Stabile, Jr., Richard William Stabile and his fiance Melissa Ora Hutt, and Melissa Amelia Parsons. Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. On Tuesday, her procession will leave the funeral home at 11 AM for a funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Huntington Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.
