Berecz, Stephen
Stephen "Whitey" Berecz died July 6, 2014 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 74 years, their daughters Barbara (Jim Hoffmann) and Bonnie (Jim Hicks), four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A retiree of the Bullard Company, he was a WWII Merchant Marine Veteran. When he wasn't sharing his time and wisdom with all the generations of his family, he was serving his religious community and local youth. Steve was a St. Emery's Church Trustee, the first "Knight of the Year" of the Father Coleman Council K of C, an Eagle Scout leader who was honored with the Silver Beaver for Distinguished Service to Boyhood, Squire founder, and Sea Scout leader. Burial will be private. Friends are invited to visit with family at the home of the deceased Wednesday July 9, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Emery's Church by contacting Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, in charge of funeral arrangements.
