Palmer, Douglas
Douglas Gary Palmer, age 72, of Stratford, passed on to Our Lord on July 13, 2014 after a short battle with cancer at the Veteran's Medical Center in West Haven. Born in Norwalk, CT., on March 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Douglas C. and Constance (Giannattasio) Palmer. Doug grew up in Bridgeport, attended Bassick High School, from then enlisted in the US Army in 1962, stationed in Germany. Returning to Bridgeport after Honorable Discharge, he was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft, Burndy Corporation and Stevens Clothing Store. He retired in 2004 after 30 years as Office Manager for Fairfield County Floor Covering owned by his boyhood, best friend, Robert Olah. For years, Doug volunteered his time through WICC Radio including, Long Island Sound America, The Barnum Festival, United Way and Easter Seals. He was also an avid golfer and WICC softball player for many years. He is survived by his devoted spouse of 35 years, Deirdre (Dee) Young, former spouse, Karen Conte, mother of his sons, Douglas H. Palmer, Scott D. Palmer, wife Michelle D. Palmer, and grandchildren, Victoria Palmer, Cameron and Bryanna Cacio and Collin Palmer. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Palmer, niece Stacey and Bill Thompson, grandniece Hannah Thompson, brother-in-law, Dennis Young and his beloved cats, Mitz & Fritz, who miss their "Poppy". We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all the wonderful doctors, nurses, aids and staff of the VA who took care of Doug during his ten years as a patient even prior to his recent cancer. Doug had requested no viewing and burial will be private. The family will announce a Memorial Service at a later date.
