Maria Romaniw, age 90, of Bridgeport, died on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Hewitt Hospital in Shelton. She was the widow of Bohdan Romaniw.
Mrs. Romaniw was born in Austria-Hungary and met her husband in Germany. They emigrated to the United States where they raised their family. Mrs. Romaniw had worked as the manager of the former Berkshire Bakery.
She and her husband were active members of their parish where Mrs. Romaniw was a member of the Sisterhood. She was very creative, loved arts and crafts and was an excellent embroiderer.
In retirement, she and her husband would help make pieroghi at many different parishes for church events. Although not of Ukraniain descent, she embraced the Ukrainian customs and traditions.
She is survived by three beloved children, Irka (Irene) Dmyterko and her husband, Daniel, of Naugatuck, Michael Romaniw and his wife, Margaret, of Shelton and Luba Doboszczak and her husband, Bohdan, of Naugatuck; seven grandchildren, Jarema Dymterko, Matyij Dmyterko and his wife, Illene, Katia Kosovec and her husband, Peter, Melanie Romaniw, Stefan Doboszczak, Yulia Doboszczak and Pavlo Doboszczak; and three great-grandchildren, Maya, Emelia and Nina; and a sister, Henrietta Zimprich of Germany.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 9:00 am at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street and at 10:00 am at Holy Protection BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Spirit Cemetery, Campbell Hall, NY. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 pm. Panikhida at 6 pm.
