Louis L. Iannone, age 89, of Shelton, entered into rest on Tuesday July 29, 2014 in his home with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of Margaret Ann (Lovas) Iannone for 68 years.
Lou was born in Shelton on Oct. 16, 1924, son of the late Antonio and Elvira (Sciaretti) Iannone and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
Lou owned and operated Sunnyside Apizza in Shelton for 5 years.
He then went to work for Sikorsky Aircraft as a Fabricator for 32 years before his retirement in 1986. He was a Army Veteran serving in the Military Police during W.W. II. He landed on Omaha Beach at Normandy and survived the D-Day invasion. He also fought in the Battle at Hurtgen Forest and serving at Guantanamo Bay. He was a member of the American Legion Sutter Terlizzi Post #16.
He is the beloved father of Linda Whitely and the late James Iannone, proud grandfather of Jessica Nolan and her husband Derrick and Andrew Iannone and his wife Ann Marie. He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn Garafalo and Theresa Fuller, several nieces and nephews, and a close family friend Elizabeth Saint John. He was predeceased by two brothers Dominic and Sunny Iannone.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Rd. Shelton. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
