Dilworth, Kathryn M.
Dilworth, Kathryn "Kathy" M. Gowan Dilworth, 76, of Stratford, CT and Naples, FL. beloved wife of the late Richard "Dick" Dilworth passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014 in St. Vincent's Medical Center with her loving family by her side after a short illness. She was born on November 30, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, and was the first child of the late Joseph P. and Elizabeth Murphy Gowan, Sr. Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Dilworth on September 16, 1956 in Brooklyn, NY and had six children. The family moved to Rowayton, CT in 1969, where they had many wonderful years. Kathy managed Jack's Fabrics in Darien for many years as well as volunteering in school, girl scouts and the volunteer fire department. In 2003, with all their children grown, Kathy and Dick moved to be closer to their children and grandchildren and divided their time between Lordship, CT and Naples, FL. Kathy was especially close to her family. Nothing made her happier than having her children or grandchildren visit in CT or FL or going to visit them in MA and DE. A real animal lover, Kathy had many dogs throughout her life and was the go-to dog sitter in the family happily taking care of Toby, Finn and Marlin whenever she was asked. Kathy had many creative talents. She loved to needlepoint, quilt and knit especially, but she also made frames, transformed furniture and was a fabulous cook. Over the years all of her children, their spouses and grandchildren received a beautiful Christmas stocking needlepointed by her and picked out specially for them. A kind and compassionate person, Kathy also volunteered at Naples Hospital and helped care for her brother-in-law, Jack Dilworth before he passed. Kathy is survived by her six children and their families: Jeanne, Gary, Eric, Mark, Jeff and Jack Rautiola of Acton, MA, Linda Dilworth of Lordship, CT, Elise, Lexi, Will, Ashley and Elle Gahagan of Wilmington, DE, John, Linda, Zachary, Baird and Brinn Dilworth of Manchester Center, VT, Leslie, Edward, Peter and Jack Vallerie of Lordship, CT and Stephanie, Chris, Andrew, Erin and Liam Massey of Lordship, CT. one sister Maura Gowan Dugan and her family of Wellington, FL. In addition to her beloved husband Richard, Kathy was also predeceased by one brother, Joseph P. Gowan Jr, brothers- in-law, Gerald and Jack Dilworth. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank to St. Vincent's Medical Center and the doctors, nurses, aides and staff who were so kind and took such great care of our mother and us during her illness. A special thanks to Dr. Rich Zelkowitz, who not only treated our father and mother and became a close friend but also helped us navigate this difficult journey. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford. To celebrate a life, please visit us at www.galellofuneralhome.com
