William (Bill) R. Bassler, age 88, of Milford, beloved husband of Shirley Bartram Bassler for 67 years, died on Tuesday, August 5 at home with his family by his side. Bill was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 15, 1925 to the late William and Christine Werlin Bassler. Bill was a proud veteran of the US Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific with the 484th Bomb Squad during WWII. Bill worked as a pattern grader for Warner Brothers for 38 years and was a big fan of the UCONN Huskies men and women's basketball teams. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Survivors include his children: Christine O'Neill and Cheryl Holter (Gary), seven grandchildren; Matthew, Eric, Adam and Shannon Holter, Kyle O'Neill (Heather), Stacey Buffone and Jennifer O'Connor (Kevin), and great-granddaughters; Kaelan Doyle-Holter, Natalie Buffone and Kaylee O'Connor. Bill is predeceased by his son, Richard Bassler, brother, Maxwill Bassler and sister, Helen Webster. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service with full military honors on Friday, August 15 at 1:00PM in Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry Street, Milford.
