Barrieau, Lydia J.
Lydia Janet Barrieau, of West Hartford, daughter of the late Herve and Marie Barrieau, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Born in Hartford, she resided in Atlanta, GA, Rome, Italy and Bridgeport. A graduate of Hartford High School and Oglethorpe University, Lydia was employed by the College Board of Atlanta. She then pursued a life abroad where Lydia served as a member of the Food and Agricultural Organization of Rome, Italy. Upon returning to the states, Lydia worked for UNICEF at the UN headquarters and then as Grants Manager for the Tao Foundation in Stamford. Lydia unselfishly devoted her last years to the tender care of her beloved mother. Lydia is survived by two brothers, Robert Barrieau and his wife Connie and Leo Barrieau and his wife Ann and a sister Lisa Barrieau. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews, Renee Dagostine and her husband Louis, Danielle Barrieau and her husband Eric Deratzian, Valerie and Robbie Barrieau, and her great nephew and niece Emery and Maria Grace. Lydia was a loving member of large extended families and many friends. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her sweet, kind, gentle and loving spirit. Her funeral service will begin on Wednesday, August 13th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford. She will be laid to rest in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home.
