DAVIS, Catherine W. Davis or Wilhelmenia as she preferred to be called, age 88 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Sumter, SC to the late Joseph and Blanch Tony. She married her husband, Thomas, May of 1943 and they managed 71 years of marriage together. That union produced two loving sons, Thomas Leroy Davis and James Sylvester Davis. Wilhelmenia graduated from Lincoln High School in Sumter, SC. After marriage the family relocated to Baltimore, MD and in 1946 relocated to Bridgeport, CT. Wilhelmenia worked at the H. O. Canfield Company in Bridgeport, CT and worked as a domestic housekeeper while putting herself through nursing school. In 1960 she completed her nursing training and worked at Bridgeport Hospital, the VA Hospital in West Haven, CT and finally retired from Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT. Wilhelmenia was a faithful member of Walters AME Church on Gregory Street in Bridgeport, CT for over 60 years and worked with the Missionary Society and various other committees. She was also a Past Matron of Oriental Chapter # 8, Order of Eastern Star Prince Hall, Herrons Of Jericho and the Order of Sirens. Wilhelmenia will be loved and missed by her husband Thomas Davis, son James Davis, daughters-in-law Rebecca Davis and Kimberly Davis, siblings Rosemary Colclough, Dorothy Carr, Lisa Freeman, Marie Harper, Leon Griffin and Thomas Way as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014, 11:00 AM at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 110 Grove St., Bridgeport with Rev. Janine Hawkins, officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton following the service. Friends are invited to the viewing Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Morton's Mortuary, Inc., 25 Margaret E Morton Lane, Bridgeport.
