On the evening of August 16, 2014, Catherine (Kal) Bennett Violante, beloved wife of the late Frank Violante and mother-in-law of the late Peter O'Donnell, passed away peacefully of natural causes. Kal was being visited and comforted by family members at home and most recently at St. Vincent's Medical Center at the time of her passing. Kal recently turned ninety-two years old. Kal was born in Bridgeport on August 10, 1922. She was the first daughter born of Catherine and Joseph Bennett. As a young woman, she worked at Nothnagles Furniture Store. On August 19, 1944, Kal married the love of her life Frank Violante. Kal worked as Director of Recreation Services at Bridgeport Health Care (formally Dinan Memorial) until her retirement in 2000; bringing her high energy, kindness, and love of people to everyone she came in contact with. Kal loved her grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them. She also loved the beach and spent time on Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Antigua with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her devoted daughter Kathryn Violante O'Donnell of Fairfield, two granddaughters and their husbands, Kelly and Jon Sheehan of Pomfret, CT and Heather and John Figmic of Marshfield, MA, four great grandchildren Kayla, Tucker, and Bailey Sheehan and Jack Figmic, a brother Connie Bennett and Marie Alteri, three sisters Irene McNeil, Joan Gunther and husband Donald, and Barbara Ciotti, two sisters-in-law Stella Bennett and Annette Bourdeau, several nieces, nephews and cherished caregiver of three years Diana Jioeva. In addition to her husband and son-in-law she was predeceased by her four brothers Joseph, Charles, William, and John Bennett, and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30am, meeting directly at St. James Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7pm, at the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
