Michael Murphy Obituary

MURPHY Michael Murphy, age 65 of Fairfield, husband of Linda Hunter Murphy, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Born in Braintree, England, son to the late Joseph and Mildred Reid Murphy, Michael came to the US as a child and was raised in New York before moving to Fairfield more than 30 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a store manager for the Verizon Wireless Co. from which he retired He was an avid lifelong bowler and was very active in the local bowling association as well as their Board of Directors. His proudest moments in his bowling career was when he earned his "300" Game ABC Achievement Ring. He loved to cook and always enjoyed preparing special holiday meals and desserts for his family to enjoy. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Michael's most enjoyable moments were spent with his children and especially his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to Linda, his beloved wife of 45 years, he leaves behind his children, Joseph Murphy and his wife, Claudine; his daughter, Michele Hatzidimitriou and her husband, Peter; grandchildren, Evan Murphy and Robert Hatzidimitriou; a brother, Kevin Murphy and his wife, Maria; sisters, Margaret Griffin and Kathleen Zilinski and her husband, Frank; and a brother-in-law, and James Hunter; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Stephen. Funeral services will be held on Friday (TODAY) at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Thomas Aquinas Church,1719 Post Rd., Fairfield with burial to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements in the care of the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
