MARTIN John F. Martin, age 84 of Bridgeport, the beloved husband of Lucy (Monda) Martin, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 1, 2012 after a long illness, in his home peacefully with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on June 15, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Emma (Jones) Martin and was one of fourteen brothers and sisters in a large Irish family. A proud and lifelong Bridgeport resident he was a WWII Army veteran and served as a guard during the Nuremberg Trials. John was an electrician and retired from Jenkins Valves, where he served as president of the United Steelworkers Union Local 5623, in the 1960's. he was also a faithful Boston Red Sox fan of seventy plus years, who suffered every loss and savored every win. He was an avid sports fanatic his entire life. A perfect day for John would be spent at the beach in the sun. He is survived by his adoring wife of 64 years, Lucy (Monda) Martin, his daughter and devoted caregiver, Rita Wargo and husband Edward, his granddaughters, Lucy Dee, Lisa (Wargo) Johnson and husband Mark, Lynn Wargo and husband Sanuel, and also Michael Taska, who he loved like a grandson, he will be greatly missed by his four great grandchildren, Abbey Wargo, Johnny Wargo, Samantha Wargo and Zachary Johnson, his is also survived by his sister, Ellen Sherwood of Port Charlotte, FL., and his brother, Danny Martin of Naugatuck, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his beloved son, John Martin Jr., who passed in 1973, his brothers, James, William, Alfred, Mickey, George and Charlie, and his sisters, Josie, Emma, Margaret, Elizabeth and Marie. He lived his life with determination and strength and made the most of each and every day of his 84 years of life. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY in St. Margaret's Shrine, 2539 Park Ave., Bridgeport with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport. www.parentelauro.com
