Bateson, Mary Ann O'Bara
Mary Ann O'Bara Bateson, age 81, the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Bateson, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2012. Born in Fairfield, Mary Ann was a lifetime resident and spent her last eight years in the competent and compassionate care of Brighton Gardens in Stamford.
The daughter of Stanley F. and Margaret O'Bara of Reef Road, Mary Ann graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport in 1952. She was a Registered Nurse and nursing supervisor over the course of her career that spanned 45 years. Prior to her retirement, she was a nurse at the Carolton Chronic Convalescent Hospital. She was a member of the Columbiettes, and a volunteer for the United Home Care Hospice program, and the Fairfield University Quick Center for the Arts.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving family: two sons and their wives, John and Doreen Bateson of New Hampshire and Edward and Michele Bateson of Fairfield; two daughters, Susan Bateson and her husband, Stephen S. Fuller of Arlington, VA, and Carol Bateson Nolin and her husband, Peter Nolin of Norwalk; a brother, Stanley O'Bara and his companion, Linda Reaney of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Merideen O'Bara of California; and five grandchildren, Daniel and Timothy Bateson, Kathryn and Margaret Nolin, and Grace Bateson. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Mott and her brother, Edward O'Bara.
Services are private and under the direction of the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center.
