Ziegler, Walter R.
Walter R. Ziegler, age 88 of Shelton passed away peacefully on Saturday November 17, 2012 at Bishop Wicke Health Care Center. Born in Bridgeport he was the son of the late Emil and Marie Zehnder Ziegler and was a life long area resident. Walter served his country proudly during WWII serving in the US Army. Upon his honorary discharge from the Army he joined his father in the family business, Emil H. Ziegler & Son plumbing and heating contracting and retired in 2003. He was an avid boater, camper and traveler all which he enjoyed with his wife. He was a past member of the Bridgeport Motorcycle Association, the Yankee Sport Car Club, the Pootatuck Yacht Club and the Family Motor Coach Association. Walter was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved being involved with his family and will be sadly missed by all. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Elinor Lucas Ziegler, devoted children; Richard W. Ziegler of Oxford and Judy Z. King and her husband Larry of Shelton, two sisters, Dorothy Lasker of Trumbull and Anne Lussen of Stratford, four grandchildren, Amanda Mitchell and husband Michael, Craig Smith and wife Christine, Erik Smith and Marisa Smith, two great grandchildren, Nathan Smith and Madeline Mitchell and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Stosse. Sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Pavilion 3 at Bishop Wicke for the great care and kindness shown to Walter during his stay. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 10 am in the Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford with the Rev. Marjorie Nunes, Pastor of Summerfield Methodist Church, officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Lawn cemetery, Huntington.
