Joseph A. Szentmiklosy, 88, died peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Kingston, NY, he had been a resident of Derby for the past 20 years. Joe was a WWII veteran, having served with the 5th Army in Italy. He retired from Bullard Company as an assembly foreman after 31 years of employment, and was a member of the Bullard Retirees. He was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and baking, and loved watching professional sports, especially football, baseball and golf. Joe was also a longtime member of Calvin United Church of Christ. His first wife, Elizabeth Eles, and his second wife, Mary Swanson, predeceased him. Survivors include sons, Joseph P. Szentmiklosy and his wife Christine A. of Bridgeport, Jeffrey Szentmiklosy of Milford and David J. Szentmiklosy of Derby; stepchildren, David and Dennis Swanson, Sandy Cameron and Karen Swanson; a brother Julius Szentmiklosy of Milford; six grandchildren, Eric, Tracy, Christopher, Candace, Becca and Kevin, and several nieces and nephews. Brothers Anthony, Bill and Aladar Szentmiklosy, and sister Julia Dugay also predeceased him. Burial will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.
