Shirley M.(Nieuwboer) Meehan, age 86 of Trumbull, passed away on Thursday February 7, 2013 at St. Joseph's Manor in Trumbull.She was the wife of the late Leroy (Roy) Meehan a retired Sargent for the Bridgeport Police Department. Shirley was born March 8, 1926 in Bridgeport the daughter of the late Gerald and Marjorie (Rooney) Nieuwboer. She was a graduate of Bassick High School and was employed by the Bridgeport Board of Education in the business office. She retired in 1995 after 40 years of service. Shirley and Roy where married in 1946 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.They enjoyed to travel to Europe and Ireland. Survivors include two daughter's Joann Lavin, of Madison and Kathleen Meehan, of Shelton; a grandson Patrick Lavin and his wife Susan, of Clinton and a niece Erin Cooke and her husband Robert of Towson, MD. Three great-grandchildren, Maggie and Michael Lavin and Marley Cooke. A brother-in-law Michael J. Meehan and his wife Ann, of Newtown and a sister-in-law Dorothy Taylor, of Fairfield. Shirley will be remembered for her wonderful smile and kind personality, as well as her tough fight with Parkinson Disease. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Andrew R.C. Church, Bridgeport. Burial will be in Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm. The family wishes to thank the staff of the 5Th floor at St, Joseph's Manor.
