Sweitzer, Marlene
Marlene Fay (Collins) Sweitzer, age 79, of Monroe, passed away February 23, 2013 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Marlene was born in Bridgeport, CT, daughter of the late John J. and Clara Halvorsen Collins and was the youngest of eight children. She was the wife of the late Donald Sweitzer. She graduated from Central High School in 1951. Marlene was a 1954 graduate of Mount St Mary College Sacred Heart Hospital of Nursing in Manchester, New Hampshire. Her nursing career began and ended at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, CT where she retired as Director of Nursing. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of The Little Club. After her retirement she traveled throughout the world with family and friends. She especially favored the Bed and Breakfasts in Ireland. One of her favorite past-times was forwarding jokes to family and friends. She was very proud of her son and his family, treasuring every minute she spent with them. She shared a special love with her grandsons. Marlene was very family and friend oriented, never forgetting to connect with a call or card no matter how far away they relocated. She was known as "Toots' or "Tootsie" and was one that everyone could talk to. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and humor. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Her loving family includes her son Donald P Sweitzer and his wife, Peggy, of North Attleboro, MA. Two cherished grandchildren Kyle and Derek Sweitzer of North Attleboro, MA, her beloved sister Claire Leslie of New Haven (formerly of Trumbull) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Wallace and John Collins and her beloved sisters Catherine Nelson, Agnes Wupperfeld Bartram, Hilda Miller and Nathalie Fredette. Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment to follow in Stepney Cemetery.
