George W. Adams Jr., 88, of Shelton passed away at Bridgeport Hospital on Saturday, March 30, 2013 with his family at his side. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late George W. Adams Sr. and Annie Penhale Adams. George attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and worked in the health care industry in many capacities, from manufacturing to sales. He served his country proudly in the US Navy for a combined total of 28 years active and active reserve duty. He joined the Navy in 1942 as a Seaman Apprentice and attended the Hospital Corps School, Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was ordered to serve with the Marines as a Pharmacists Mate. He served as a Navy Corpsman with the First Marine Division, 7th Marines. George was a Chief Petty Officer and served aboard the USS Kittson from commissioning to decommissioning. He was with the USMC at Guadalcanal, Vella Lavella and Bouganville. He was with the USN in the Leyte Gulf Phillipines, Cebu, Okinawa, twice, including Easter Sunday, 1945. He served in the Korean conflict. George was involved in various Masonic organizations for over 60 years. He was a member of the F and AM Lodge 61, Wilkes-Barre, PA and St. John's 8 in Stratford, CT. He was a member of the Reading, PA and Lafayette Consistories. Also the AAONMS Rajah Shriners, Reading, PA and Pyramid Shriners, Milford, CT. He was the Potentate of the Pyramid Shrine in 1997. He was a member and past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters, DIMARYP Court #66 (2003). George was a Governor Emeritus of the Board of Governors, Springfield Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield, MA. George served as Chairman of the Board of the Nichols United Methodist Church and in various other capacities at the church. George was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, with enthusiasm and generosity. Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Eleanor Symons Adams, his devoted children George W. Adams III and his wife Sandra Honda Adams of Stratford, Thomas R. Adams and his wife Susan Fraser Adams of Madison, Grace Anne Weitzer and her husband Stephen of Fairfield and Bill Adams and his wife Darrilyn of Coto de Caza, CA He was predeceased by his son, Lewis Alan Adams and his great granddaughter Nora Nelly. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Elizabeth Dorney and her husband Jim, Kristin Adams, Kimberly Nelly and her husband Joe, Thomas W.L. Adams and his wife Basia, Daniel Adams, Alan Weitzer, Joseph Weitzer, Robert Weitzer, Billy Adams and Matthew Adams; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Diane Clarke for her love and compassion while taking care of George during the past two years. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11 AM in the Nichols United Methodist Church, 25 Shelton Rd. Trumbull with the Rev. Joseph Piccirillo, Pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honor will follow in Union Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dennis and D'Arcy - Abriola and Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford.
