Marya Grossman, 98, of Mansfield, CT, formerly of Trumbull, CT, passed away on Saturday (May 25, 2013) at St. Joseph Living Center. Marya was born March 30, 1915 in Jersey City, N.J to the late Stanley and Marya (Pankowska) Fryczynski. She studied violin at Eastman School of Music and Pre Med at the University of Rochester. After graduating from the U of R she went back to New Jersey to do research in tuberculosis. Marja married John Henry Grossman II on November 30, 1941. They had met at the University of Rochester in their Medical and Technical German Class. While her husband was working on his Internship and Residency at Yale University, Marya joined the faculty and worked in the Department of Pediatrics. Mrs. Grossman was a very creative woman as well. Over the years she sold many ideas and craft projects to Woman's Day Magazine for their Annual Christmas Craft Issue. She studied fashion design and was an accomplished seamstress who created beautiful outfits for family, friends and many of the dolls in her extensive collection. A member of the 75 year old Jenny Lind Doll Club for more than 50 years, Marya held most all of the major offices and served on many committees. She will be remembered by her friends in the Doll Club and the Doll Community at large with love and admiration. Dr. and Mrs. Grossman enjoyed traveling around the world together. Marya shared her husband's interest in stage magic and continued to attend various magic conventions with their dear friends even after her husband passed away. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Adele Ziobro, Halina Krause, her brother Thaddeus Fryczynski and her beloved husband of 51 year, Dr. John Henry Grossman II. She is survived by her children, Dr. John Henry Grossman III and his wife Georgette of Dunn Loring, VA. and Marja ("Pixie") Parks and her husband Dave of Mansfield Center, CT. her grandchildren, Lisa Guiterman and her husband Michael of Potomac, MD, John Henry Grossman IV and his wife Lael of Santa Clara, CA and Marja Gina Prewitt-Reifschneider and her husband Brian of North Windham, CT. her great grandchildren, Ava and Noah Guiterman of Potomac, MD. her brother, Stanley Fryczynski Jr. and his wife Patricia of Brick, N.J. her nephew, Mathew Krause and his wife Jan of Nothingham, P.A. her cousin, Rita Bryzinski of San Antonio, TX, her "other "daughter"Marie Francois Schulz-Aellen of Geneve, Switzerland, her "niece" Suzanne Clowry of Brewster, MA, her "Visiting Angel", Dorothy Lamot of Willington, CT and many friends throughout the world. The family wishes to thank everyone at St Joseph Living Center including the therapy kitties.
The Funeral Service will be held, Wednesday, May 29 at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195), Willimantic, CT 06226. Her family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:30 pm with the Funeral Service immediately following at 2:30. Mrs. Grossman will be buried beside her beloved husband John Henry II on Thursday, May 30 at 11:00 am at the Nichols Farm Cemetery in the Village of Nichols, CT in the Town of Trumbull.
