Charles Adams, age 70 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Coleman and Willie Thompson Adams, Charles has been a resident of Bridgeport for the past forty-six years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Fayetteville State, his Master of Science and 6th Year degree in Physical Education from the University of Bridgeport. Charles was a retired teacher from the City of Bridgeport with forty-one years of service. He taught at McKinley Elementary, Eastside Middle and for the last thirty-seven years at Central High School. He was instrumental in initiating Girls Volleyball; started the first African American Club and was the assistant tennis coach at Central High School. Mr. Adams also served as the Athletic director for the Orcutt Boys Club. His spiritual needs were met as a member of the Mt. Aery Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Arrington Adams of Bridgeport; two daughters, Kelly Adams of Hamden and Kyra Adams of Bridgeport; four brothers, William and Coleman Adams of Bridgeport, James Adams of Norwalk and George Adams of NC; two grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 2013, 1:00 pm at Mt. Aery Baptist Church, 73 Frank St., Bridgeport with Rev. Anthony L. Bennett, D.Min, Pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery following the service. Friends are invited to the viewing Friday from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the church. See www.mortonsmortuary.com.
