Walter Czapla Obituary

Czapla, Walter M.
Walter M. Czapla, age 88, passed away February 19, 2014 at the Jewish Home in Fairfield just hours before he was to return to his beloved home and family. Walter was born in Fairfield on November 21, 1925 to the late Mary (Magera) and John Czapla. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1943, was a WWII veteran of the US Navy, and was a retired plumber of Local 173. Walter was the devoted husband of Jane (Olenski) for almost 60 years and the loving father of Mary Jane Bayusik (husband Jared) of Bridgeport, Michael Czapla of Black Rock, John Czapla of Baton Rouge, LA, Joseph Czapla (wife Virginia) of SC and Christine Holmes (husband Christopher) of Granby, CT. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Stephen and Kristen Bayusik, Elizabeth and Daniel Czapla, Miranda and Silas Czapla, and Matthew and Andrew Holmes, and his loving nieces and nephews. His sister Josephine Wach and his brother Stanley Czapla also predeceased him. Walter was a happy man of simple tastes, and a devoted Catholic. He loved to dance and was a great Polka fan. He was also a loyal fan of the UCONN Women Huskies. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:30 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield followed by interment in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Walter's memory to St. Anthony Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, CT, 06824.

Dear Jane,

I am so very sorry to learn of your loss. My wonderful Mom, Anna Giba, LOVED volunteering with you both at Bridgeport Regional Health Center. I was always so impressed that a 'man' would volunteer to take residents to say the rosary. You were a beautiful couple, inside and out. Please take comfort in the fact that my Mom welcomed him to Heaven with open arms.

My deepest sympathy,
Joanne

Dear Jane and Family,
My condolences on your loss. The smiling photo of Walt brought back memories. I remember as a child being fascinated watching him work on the furnace in our basement. He let me cut some threads on the steel pipe - I can still see it.
Our prayers for you and the St. Anthony kids.

Dear Aunt Jane and cousins, and, all your grandchildren. Uncle Walt really knew how to live life. He certainly is a big part of my childhood memories with our summers at Seaside Park. He was all about family and put up with all of us little ones in the water shouting "me next Uncle Walt" as he was so patient picking us up and throwing us in the water. I remember like it was yesterday. I wish for every family to have an Uncle Walt. I love you all. Gloria
