Lorraine B. Daston (Lekas), devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at age 93 on May 27, 2016, at the Jewish Senior Services in Fairfield, CT.
Lorraine was born in Hoboken, NJ, on December 13, 1922, and grew up in Bridgeport, CT, with her parents, George and Alexandra (Delamanaras) Lekas, and her three siblings Irene, Theresa and Peter. Several years after graduating from Central High School, Lorraine wed Philip Daston on August 18, 1946, and raised two lovely daughters during their 34 years of marriage. In 1989, Lorraine established a companionship with Anast Kaklamanos, which continued throughout the rest of her life.
Lorraine was a homemaker while her children were young. After her daughters grew up, Lorraine worked as a sales associate in high-end retail stores—an ideal job for a lady who always was in good style and passionate about shopping. In her later years, she spent every Saturday shopping with her youngest daughter. Lorraine loved musicals and theatre and she loved to watch her grandchildren perform.
The Greek Orthodox Church and community at large was a second family to Lorraine. Lorraine's religious beliefs and traditions played an important role throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed Greek dancing and cooking, and was famous for making her delicious pastitsio.
Seen as a gracious, elegant, and warmhearted woman, Lorraine always enjoyed life to the fullest with loved ones she held close to her heart. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and loving ways by those who knew her, bringing smiles to so many faces.
Lorraine is survived by her two loving daughters, Janet Christon and Alexandra (Sandy) Richardson, who is married to David Richardson. Lorraine is also survived by six loving grandchildren: Katina Kontorouhas (married to Emanuel), Evan Christon (married to Lisa), Philip Christon (married to Danielle), Alexander Christon (married to Christine), Lorin Richardson Aloe (married to Rocco) and Nicoletta Richardson. She also left behind five precious great-grandchildren: Athena Christon, Zena Kontorouhas, Kiki Kontorouhas, Niko Christon and Jack Christon.
A special thank you to the staff of Bennett 5 at the Jewish Senior Services for taking excellent care of Lorraine while she lived there. The staff members were always attentive, warm and patient with Lorraine and constantly kept in touch with her family members. Lorraine's family is very grateful to them for their outstanding service.
Friends are invited to attend the "Rite of Burial" on Thursday June 2, 2016 at 10am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave Bridgeport with Fr. Georgios Livaditis Presbyter officiating followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport with Trisagion services at 5:30pm in the funeral home. If desired donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in loving memory of Lorraine.
