Raymond McIndoe Obituary

MCINDOE Raymond Wellington McIndoe, Jr., age 86, of Monroe, formerly of Plymouth, Mass., beloved husband of the late Barbara Burrows McIndoe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2007 in his home. Born in Greenburg, Pa., the son of the late Raymond Wellington McIndoe, Sr and Julia McIndoe, he had been a Monroe resident for the last six months and prior to that Plymouth, Mass. He also lived for a period of time in Norwalk. He received both a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a Masters of Science degree in Water Engineering form Rice University. Mr. McIndoe served as a Marine Biologist for the U.S. Navy during World War II at the Clapp Laboratories in Duxbury, Mass. He later worked for the Health Department for the State of Pennsylvania. The majority of his career was spent with the Johns Manville Company where he was a key figure in the development and distribution of Diatomaceous Earth Filtration. Following retirement he worked for the City of New York developing a water filtration plant for the New York City water supply. Mr. McIndoe was a life-member of the American Waterworks Association and the New England Waterworks Association. He was a 32nd Degree lifetime member of the Masons and a member of the 2nd Church of Plymouth, Congregational. Survivors include two children, Dana B. McIndoe and his wife Eileen of Monroe and Laurie E. Birchall and her husband Mark of Miami, FL; a sister, Marion MacIntyre of Harrisburg, PA; four grandchildren, Jason McIndoe and his wife Carey and Kelly McIndoe Ketcham and her husband Frank Ketcham, III all of Clarksville, TN, Abra Birchall of North Carolina and Esther Birchall of Miami, FL; six great-grandchildren, Samantha Cheff, Mark and Michael McIndoe, Alexa Eileen McIndoe, Frank Ketcham, IV and Payton Elizabeth Ketcham; two nephews, Robert McIntyre of Linglestown, PA and George Burrows, Jr. of Thailand; a niece, Rebecca Castanha of Pembroke, MA; and a brother-in-law and best friend, George Burrows of Pembroke, MA. Friends may call on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield. Interment will be in the Burrows family plot in Scituate, MA. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. McIndoe may be made to the CT Hospice 680 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton, CT 06484.
