I had just started to support Carlisle when Gordon came to play. I remember him as a strong and skillful wing half. I knew he had done well in USA. My thoughts are with is family. God Bless.

I never met Gordon but my father and his brothers who were all his age would have known him well. I was brought up in Easington Colliery and I am a fanatical Sunderland supporter and was a player and manager of football teams in lower leagues. I now live in Australia so I do understand the expatriate mentality. I wish to give my sincere condolances to Gordon's family. It takes real mental strength to make it in another country and only very dedicated people can make an unpopular sport attractive to an audience who were never brought up to play the beautiful game. Gordon was obviously a special human being and tonight I will raise a glass and shed a tear for someone I never met, but wish that I had.
Sincerely
Ed McNaney
