Lopez, Elvira (Renteria)  
Elvira Renteria Lopez, 90, of North Mesquite Street, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Carlsbad Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday (July 2) at San Jose Catholic Church. Father Martin Cordero will be the celebrant. Vigil will be 7 p.m on Wednesday (July 1) at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home. Cremation will take place following the Mass. Services are under the direction of West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com Elvira Renteria Lopez was born in Carlsbad, NM on October 28, 1924 to Fernando and Guadalupe (Sotelo) Renteria. Elvira was a dedicated woman of God who believed in the power of prayer. She spent a great deal of time each day and often could be found late at night praying for her children and grandchildren. She loved going to church and watching the EWTN Catholic Channel. Elvira also enjoyed watching football and her favorite team the Dallas Cowboys as well as playing poker and bingo. She was a member of both St. Edward and San Jose Catholic Church. Elvira was preceded in death by her husband Victorio Lopez whom she married in 1950. Also preceding her were sons: Victor "Baby" Lopez, Jr. and Michael Lopez; brothers: Gilbert and Jose Renteria and grandson Fabian Munoz. She is survived by son: Larry Lopez (Liz), daughters: Patsy Madrid (Mike), Lori Lopez and Dora Munoz (Bobby), brother, Fernando "Gordy" Renteria, Jr.; sisters: Carolina Acosta and Delia Rodriquez, all of Carlsbad; grandchildren: Brad and Adrian Rodriguez, Gym Santillanes, Mario, Danny Ray, Emilio, Diego, Honesty and Michael Lopez; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Pallbearers will be Gym Santillanes, Emilio, Diego, Michael, Mario and Danny Ray Lopez. Honorary Pallbearers are Brad and Adrian Rodriguez.
