O’Neal, Addie "Alice"  
Addie "Alice" O'Neal, a resident of Carlsbad since 1961, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday night, July 20, 2016 at the age of 100. At Alice's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service at this time. Burial will be held in El Paso, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at Alice was born on December 3, 1915 to Lester Hershey and Nettie Connelly Hershey in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her early schooling was in Texas, graduating from Denison High School in 1933. In 1937, she received a B.A. Degree from Sul Ross State Teacher's College in Alpine, Texas. On August 26, 1940, Alice married Prentiss G. O'Neal in El Paso, Texas where they lived until 1961. They had one daughter, Karen. The family moved to Carlsbad in 1961 when Prentiss became the manager of Gateway Motor Company. The name was changed to O'Neal Motors after they became owners of the company in 1968. Alice continued teaching school in Carlsbad after the move and was a dedicated first grade teacher for thirty-three years in El Paso and Carlsbad. After Alice retired from teaching in 1977, she was a volunteer for Deliver-a-Meal and later at the CARC Farm Bargain Store. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends until three years ago. Mrs. O'Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss on October 24, 2002 as well as her beloved brother, Donovan Hershey. She is survived by her daughter, Karen of Carlsbad as well as her sister-in-law, Pat Hershey of Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
