Carl "Bill" Bartlett

Carl "Bill" Bartlett, 92, of Landsun Drive, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Brownfield Medical Center in Brownfield, Texas. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Sunset Gardens cemetery. Dr. Larry Krueger, chaplain with Landsun Homes, will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veterans' Honor Guard. The family will be receiving guests following the service until 3 p.m. Friday at the Landsun Clubhouse on Landsun Circle. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. today (April 24) and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at westfuneralhomellc.com
Carl W. "Bill" Bartlett was born in Fairbury, Neb., Dec. 15, 1920. His family moved to Hagerman, N.M., in 1921, eventually settling in Artesia. Bill graduated from NMMI in 1943.
During World War II, Bill served in the Army Armored Cavalry, 782nd and 749th Tank Battalions.
After the war, Bill returned to Artesia and joined his father and grandfather building and managing movie theaters in the area. After selling the theaters, Bill explored many other professions but his love was the movies. Bill was an avid fisherman.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Bartlett; daughters: Annette Lucero and Carla Nymeyer; sons-in-law: Michael Lucero and Frank Nymeyer; grandchildren: Louis Ingram, Sarah Nymeyer, Eli Nymeyer and Jennifer Nymeyer; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Ingram, Gabriel Najar, Sateevah Ingram and Wesley Nymeyer; and sisters: Phyliss Gilchrist and Shirley Metzler; along with many nieces and nephews.
