Nadine was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., on Feb. 27, 1970. She grew up in South Texas and moved to New Mexico in 1986. Because of Nadine's good looks, wit and charm, it did not take her long to start making friends. She married Mike Kuhn of Hobbs and they started a family. She joined the Knowles Fire Dept. and became an EMT/Firefighter. It was not long before she knew this was the only career for her. She loved the brotherhood of the Fire Dept. and the chance to become involved in the community as well as helping others. She became employed at WIPP as an EMT/Firefighter and later moved to the Carlsbad area. She was a member of the Joel Fire Dept. and is now a Lieutenant on the Malaga Fire Dept. Nadine took her responsibilities seriously and was very matter of fact, but she also had a sparkle about her that could light up a room. She loved to play and laugh and definitely lived life to the fullest with a passion that is hard to find.
Nadine married Kelly Calicoat of Carlsbad on June 8, 2012. They both knew from the start that they were a match made in heaven. They brought out the best in each other and spent every minute together unless they were working. Although their time together on this earth was cut short by her cancer, they truly had a storybook romance.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeri DeWitt of Loving; brothers: Bill DeWitt of Chandler, Ariz., and Brent DeWitt of Loving; and sister-in-law, Les DeWitt of Chandler.
Nadine is survived by her husband, Kelly Calicoat of the home; two sons: Jake Kuhn and fiancee, Sara Clay of Carlsbad and Chance Kuhn of Loving; two daughters: Skylar Calicoat of Carlsbad and Ciera Calicoat of Roswell; one grandson, Grayden Kuhn; brothers: Rick DeWitt of Tinley Park, Ill., and Vern DeWitt of Highland, Ind.; and sisters: Cindy DeWitt of Tempe, Ariz., and Vicky Styx of Oak Lawn, Ill.
