Norman E. Nielsen, 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Landsun Health Service Center. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Mar. 25) at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Rev. Stephanie Harmon, Chaplain, Landsun Homes, will officiate. Military Honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veteran's Honor Guard. Norman Ellis Nielsen was born to George and Erma Jordan Nielsen on November 28, 1928, in Kasota, Minnesota. He was raised in Minnesota and served in the United States Navy
during World War II
Norman and Margie Ruth Lake Nielsen were married December 24, 1955, in Odessa, Texas. They moved to southern California in 1959 where he was employed as a machinist for Adams Rite Manufacturing. In 1989 they moved to Carlsbad in order to be closer to family.
He is preceded in death by his wife and numerous siblings.
Norman is survived by daughter Sue Rosenberg of Hobbs, N.M.; grandson, Michael Schooley of Vista, Calif.; granddaughters: Jenny DiMarino of Los Alamos, N.M., Malisa Massingale and husband Charlie and Becky Rosenberg, all of Eunice, N.M., and five great-grandchildren; survivors also include: brother in laws: John Lake of Fresno, Calif., and Robert Lake and wife Ella of Springfield, Mo., and sisters-in-law: Ann Campbell and husband Jesse of Carlsbad, Mary J. Gentry of Grand Junction, Colo., and Barbara Chester and husband Virgil of Waynesboro, Tenn., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
