Memorial services for Scott Conner Nichols are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the West Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dickie Means of Cavern Baptist Church officiating. Scott lost a short battle with pancreatic cancer Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Scott Conner Nichols was born to Oral Jr. and Phyllis Schultz Nichols on May 15, 1952, in Carlsbad. He was raised on the family farm at Otis and was educated in Carlsbad and graduated from CHS in 1970.
Scott worked as a truck driver for many years and most recently was employed by TDM- Construction. He was a member of B.P.O.E. No. 1558 and a lifelong farmer and avid outdoorsman, spending every hunting season with his son Wesley and family. His greatest passion in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis.
Scott is survived by his father Oral Jr.; loving wife, Lillie; sons: Wesley Nichols and wife, Jeannie, and children Reagan and Randi; Chris Austin and wife, Anna, and children Toby, Cole, Brandon, Memorie, Zaida and Jadah; daughters: Michele Rutley and husband, Jim, and children Gavin and Hunter; and Wendy Whitlock and husband, Duncan, and children Austin, D.J. and Cora, all of Carlsbad; sisters: Suzie Long and husband, John of El Paso, Texas, and Lynn Saltsman and husband, Vic of Clifton, Va.; brother, Jeff Nichols and wife, Paula of South Lake, Texas; great-grandson, Jaylan; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends whom he loved like family.
