Walter Caddell Obituary

Walter "Vernon" Caddell was born on Feb. 4, 1941, in Carlsbad, N.M., to Lester and Reatha Mitchell Caddell. He was raised and educated in Carlsbad.
While still in high school, Vernon was drafted into the United States Army. After serving in the Army for two years, Vernon returned to Carlsbad and began work as a crane operator for construction companies working in New Mexico, Texas and Nevada. He was a member of the International Union of Operat-ing Engineers. In 1980 he retired from Hamilton Construction due to health issues.
Vernon enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing, camping and hunting. He had many friends in Carlsbad and will be missed by them all.
He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Vernon is survived by his daughter, Deanna Cavender, and her children, Savannah Walker and Brandon Kirkes of Levelland, Texas; sister Dee Kirk and husband Steve of Carlsbad; brother Terry Caddell and wife Sonnie of Springerville, Ariz,; common law wife of many years Jan Bryant Caddell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

To the Caddell family,
I have known you many years, and I am sorry to hear of the passing of Vernon. He was always very nice to me as well as all of your family. Mrs. Caddell (Retha) was a strong and wonderful woman. We lived across the street from the Caddells when I was a young girl. Doris Dawn and I played together as young girls. My sincerest sympathy to you all during this sad time. To all the family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Vernon. He was always such a good friend to me, more like a big brother. We spent many days and nights hunting, fishing, and just having fun. He could turn a bad day into the greatest one with his great personality and he could make anyone smile and laugh. He will be badly missed by many. God bless all of you.
