Claude L. Sartin, 82, of Spencer Street, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Carlsbad Medical Center. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Happy Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Tarvin officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. There is no visitation; cremation has taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home. Claude L. Sartin was born to Isaac Marvin and Matilda Emma Hite Sartin on Jan. 31, 1931, in Roswell, N.M. He was raised and educated in Roswell before serving in the U.S. Army. He served as a second lieutenant for the New Mexico Mounted Patrol Troop No. 13 and was employed by the NM State Highway Department for 28 years, prior to his retirement.
Claude had belonged to the B.P.O.E. No. 969, Eagles and V.F.W. all in Roswell and was a current member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by brothers: I.M. Sartin Jr., A. Wayne Sartin, Odell Marvin Sartin, Louis Joe Sartin and Raymond Sartin; and sister, Sally Raby.
Claude is survived by daughter, Cindy Oakes and husband, Harold of Ruidoso, N.M.; grandchildren: Damain Chad Oakes and Kirsten ReJeana Oakes, both of Ruidoso, and Destiny Rae Hixon of Alamogordo, N.M.; great-grandchildren, Lorelai Hixon and RaeLeigh Oakes; as well as "Uncle Puny's" numerous and much loved nieces and nephews.
